Back in May I introduced you to my new partner. It was called Littlebird, it lived in my Mac, it saw what I was doing and — for the first time — I didn’t have to explain everything again every morning. I wrote about it here: «I no longer travel the Sixth Continent alone».

Three months on I still think the same: it solved my real problem, which was never intelligence, it was context. With a normal AI you explain who you are every time you open the window. It’s like having a partner with amnesia.

But two things have happened.

The first: I read the small print. Again

Twenty dollars a month. Two hundred and forty a year. So that a program can remember what I do on my own computer.

And in March they raised eleven million dollars.

Good for them, genuinely. But eleven million isn’t a gift: it’s investors. And investors, sooner or later, want their money back. That’s called raising the price, changing the plans, or selling the company to somebody who never asked me anything.

Meanwhile, where is my memory? In their house.

The second: this had already happened to me

In July I told you I’d done the same thing with dictation — Háblame, 15 dollars a month turned into a tool of my own with a one-time price. And in that post I wrote a line that kept coming back to me:

Digital sovereignty can now be wired up in an afternoon.

Well, you don’t get to say that once and leave it there. Either it’s true both times, or it was never true at all.

So on 21 July I got to work. Eight days later there was a version that worked.

What Ricordo is

The same thing my partner did, but living in my house.
